Everything you need to know to make each time a great-tasty and nutritious detox smoothie
Today, I intend to share my fool-proof practice for making delicious and healthy detox smoothies. Whether you have overeaten over the holidays, drank more alcohol on the weekend, struggling to lose some weight, or just want to boost your immune system, smoothies are the simplest way to pack a bunch of essential nutrition into one only meal.
3 Major Criteria For The Great Smoothie
When I make a smoothie, it needs to satisfy three essential criteria:
- Looks impressive: We eat first with our eyes, and no one wants to drink anything that looks unpleasant and like swamp water!
- Mind-blowing tasty: Life is too short of consuming something that isn’t delicious.
- It has to be nutrient-dense heavy loaded with great ingredients.

Starting Your Cleanse
I drink smoothies every day, and I think everyone can enjoy them. However, it’s important to rotate your ingredients to include a variety of fresh vegetables and greens, fruits, herbs, and spices, so you don’t overdo it on any of the single components.
Fruits and vegetables get to oxidize the moment you cut them open(especially fruit), so it’s always best to enjoy them the same day they’re made to diminish the degradation of nutrients and to get the best health “punch” for your body.
In today’s life, we’re all in a rush, and it’s not always possible right away to drink your smoothie. However, if you’re making a smoothie in the morning to drink later in the day or the night before to have it in the morning, you can still obtain everything of the magic stuff hidden inside them. All you need to do is seal the smoothie in a bottle or a jar right after making it and store it in the fridge. And don’t forget to shake it up again before enjoying it.
My Favorite Ingredients For The Best Detox Smoothie Recipes(and why)
Coconut Water
After plain filtered water, coconut water is my best choice when using liquid for smoothies. Low in calories, low in carbs, and nearly fat-free, coconut water is pairing great with most fruits and veggies. Further, it’s a natural energy drink due to its high electrolytes amount that keeps you hydrated.
Spinach(Baby)
Packed with iron and other micro-elements and antioxidants, vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, fiber, anti-inflammatory power, this leafy legend are an immunity-boosting and cleansing champion. With a mild taste, which, however, is easily masked by fruits and vegetables, spinach is the top choice for starting with green smoothies. The great news is you can use 1 to 2 cups into any blend without really changing the flavor.
Lemon
Low in sugar but wealthy in nutrients, lemons are real detox heroes. Lemons are amped of antioxidant vitamin C, B vitamins, and antibiotic phytonutrients. The citric acid in lemons supports digestion, while ascorbic acid attacks free radicals. Lemon peels are especially rich in antioxidants, so throw some zest into your shakes for an extra “boost” of flavor and nutrition.
Apples
Pectin is a soluble fiber found in apples helping sweep the colon boosting your digestive health. Apple pectin reduces the body’s secretion of insulin, keeping apples’ glycemic index relatively low. Use the peels always, as many of the nutrients and fiber in apples are concentrated in the skin.
Bananas
Bananas are healthy and nutritious and will give you some part of the fiber, essential nutrients, and antioxidants needed for you daily. Most bananas have a low to medium glycemic index, therefore not cause big spikes in blood sugar levels. Banana is an excellent means to make your smoothie smooth and creamy as well as to sweeten and enrich its nutritional power.
Berries
Berries providing tons of flavor while still being relatively low in sugar. Rich in vitamin C, phytonutrients, and tones of minerals, these noble colorful berries are full of antioxidants helping combat inflammation in muscles, blood, and the eyes. Full of fiber, berries are an excellent choice when the goal is better digestion and detox. Along with their health benefits, berries add natural sweetness to smoothies, and you can use them fresh or frozen.
Pineapple
Bromelain, the protein-digesting enzyme in pineapple, reinforces the power of its vitamin C content. It suppresses cough and helps clear respiratory congestion, loosens mucus, and flushes out toxins. Further, it reduces swelling and bloating and animate blood circulation–a great assistant for deep detox. You can use pineapple fresh or frozen.
Cayenne Pepper
Bromelain, the protein-digesting enzyme in pineapple, reinforces the power of its vitamin C content. It suppresses cough and helps clear respiratory congestion, loosens mucus, and flushes out toxins. Further, it reduces swelling and bloating and animate blood circulation–a great assistant for deep detox. You can use pineapple fresh or frozen.
Broccoli
Broccoli is one of the wealthiest glucosinolate sources. Glucosinolate is among the most potent toxins-tackling compounds found in foods. Heavily loaded with an arsenal of antioxidants, minerals, flavonoids, and fiber, these bright florets fight inflammation, oxygenate the blood, and expel harmful bacteria for better digestion. Due to their irreplaceable health-boosting qualities, you can slip frozen or raw florets into smoothies unnoticed using 1/4 to 1/2 cup of broccoli.
